Coffee Classics Club

Our Mission

Most pieces of literature taught in schools have a limited source of where the writings originate from. Students read famous novels like The Great Gatsby and Pride and Prejudice, but works outside of the Western or European canon are often overlooked. Many students probably haven't heard of groundbreaking stories like Epic of Gilgamesh or Things Fall Apart until they reach college. This is a major issue in providing insight to places outside the countries students live, breath, and study in. Literature represents and influences many facets of a region, including their history, cultures, political systems, beliefs, religions, and so many unseen details that can only be painted through the words of a writer. Without knowledge of global classic literature, students can have limited knowledge of the world's many cultural details, and will not be able to experience adventures through them at the prime age of foundational learning.

For this reason, the Coffee Classics Club works to bring these prominent classics to light from all around the world, from the great mountains in China, to the Gothic architecture in France, to the bejeweled palaces in India, to the famous philosophical academies in Greece. We believe that literature from all around the world should be read just as frequently as The Great Gatsby, especially in secondary school or high school levels. Through this, students can absorb the cultural aspects of nations foreign to them as familiar, and this may serve as a great benefit by appreciating of different backgrounds.

Therefore, we encourage you to take a look at our resources and articles to gain insight about our mission. Even though we are only a student organization, our many members come from all parts of the globe, and together our collective voices can shine a light on the works we have studied and shared through this club. This is a main part of our club mission: to devote our time to study other regions of the world through literature and the humanities. â€‹
